GPS is a Global Positioning System, which use 24 Medium Earth Orbit satelites to transmit navigation signals.
Tooday GPS and navigation devices are available to civilian users in many applications. For example SiRFstarIII GPS microcontroller chip is used by several manufacturers like TomTom, Magellan Navigation, Nokia, Sony or Garmin. This chip may be placed in mobile phones, GPS receiver, automotive GPS.
GPS device market will be worth $22bn in 2008, and prediction are that GPS-enabled mobile phones market will be worth $100bn in 2012, so this business has got big potential.
